Igreja e Democracia

Um amigo enviou-me este apontamento que me parece justissimo: corram com a Igreja da vida pública e vejam o que acontecerá à democracia...:

I am not an optimist about the future of democracy in Portugal. Democracy, probably much more than any other political regime, needs religion as a political institution actively involved in public life (see post below). However, what democracy has always done in Portugal was to kick out religion (I mean, the Catholic Church) out of the public arena. It is doing it again. It is a very bad sign, if not a terminal one.
